Kalem is made by one person. It has no analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDKs and nothing that follows you between apps. This page says exactly what it does store, and what leaves your phone.

What's stored

Your words

The words you add, and what the app writes about them — the explanation, pronunciation, example sentence and synonyms. Plus how many times each has been shown, so the rotation knows what to show next.

An account identifier

When you sign in with Apple, Apple gives the app a identifier unique to you and to Kalem — not your Apple ID. If Apple passes along your name at first sign-in, it's stored so the app can greet you. Your email address is never received or stored.

A sign-in token

So the app and its widget stay signed in. Only a one-way hash of it is kept on the server; the token itself never leaves your device.

Your settings

How many words a day, when they change, and which language explanations are written in.

What leaves your phone

Kalem talks to one server: kalem-api.usmanov.me, operated by the same developer. You may notice that hostname differs from this site — it's the same person and the same service, over HTTPS.

When you add a word, the text of that word is sent to an AI model through a gateway the developer runs, which produces the explanation you see. The model provider receives the word itself and nothing else — not your name, not your account identifier, not your other words. No one is trying to identify you from the word "serendipity", but you should know it leaves.

What is never collected

No analytics or crash reporting. No advertising identifiers. No location, contacts, photos, calendar or health data. No tracking across apps or websites — the app contains no code capable of it. Nothing is sold or shared with anyone, ever, because there is no one to sell it to.

Deleting everything

In the app: Settings → Delete account. Your account, every word in it, your settings and your sign-in tokens are removed from the database straight away. Any backup copies are overwritten within 30 days. There is no soft delete and nothing to restore afterwards, so take a moment before confirming.

Signing out instead leaves everything on the server and clears only this device.

Children

Kalem isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly store their data.

Your rights

You can see everything the app holds about you inside the app — it's your list of words — and delete all of it from Settings. For anything else, including a copy of your data in a file, write to support@kalemapp.com.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be mentioned in the app's release notes.
