Write to support@kalemapp.com and a person — the one who made it — will reply, usually within a day or two. Below are the questions that come up most.
Getting the widget onto your Lock Screen
This is the fiddly part, and it happens in iOS rather than in Kalem:
- Lock the phone, then press and hold the Lock Screen.
- Tap Customise, then tap the screen on the left.
- Tap the strip under the clock, then +.
- Find Kalem and add it.
The strip fits two. Add Explanation beside Kalem and you get the word, how it sounds and what it means at a glance. There's a third slot on the line beside the date, which takes Kalem too.

The widget isn't changing
Almost always one of three things:
- The app is signed out
- The widget reads your words through the app's sign-in. Open Kalem; if it shows the welcome screen, sign in and the widget catches up.
- It's between slots
- Words change on your schedule — four a day between 08:00 and 22:00 unless you've changed it in Settings → When words change. Between two slots, the same word is correct.
- iOS is being frugal
- iOS decides how often widgets may refresh, and it's stingier with widgets you rarely look at. Opening the app nudges it.
Why only one word a day?
That's the free plan: a word a day, and your last thirty kept. It's a limit on adding, counted from midnight in your own timezone — deleting a word doesn't give the day back, or the limit would mean nothing. Pro ($9.99 a year) and Forever ($19.99 once) remove it and open your whole archive.
A word you add past the limit isn't lost: it waits on the home screen and goes in when you tap Add now the next day.
Explaining words in another language
When you add a word, pick a language on the chip row — Russian, Uzbek, Turkish, Arabic and others. Leave it alone and the app uses your default, which is English until you change it. The word itself can be in any language, whichever you're explaining it in.
Deleting your account
Settings → Delete account removes your account and every word in it, immediately and permanently. Signing out instead leaves everything on the server and clears only this device. See Privacy for what's stored in the first place.
